2/10/2023 - Tournament Schedule and Other Wrestling Opportunities
Good afternoon Aloha Wrestling Family,
To allot enough time for weigh-ins, we've adjusted the arrival times for each session to start 15 minutes earlier for the Hillsboro tournament tomorrow.
7/8 = 7:45am
5/6 = 9:45am
3/4 = 11:45am
1/2 & Pk/K = 1:45pm
We are finalizing dates for our end of Metro season party for the first week of March. We will send an update once we have confirmation.
This year we will continue to practice after the Metro Wrestling Season. There are opportunities for our middle school wrestlers to continue to compete at the Oregon middle school qualifier and Middle school championships at beginning of March. For our younger advanced wrestling team we will begin Freestyle and Greco wrestling. This is the type of wrestling that you see in the Olympics and internationally. There are some fun opportunities for our wrestlers to compete in some local freestyle/ greco tournaments as well in early March. Practices will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00-7:30pm for the remainder of the season. There are no additional charges to wrestle with our program for the season other than any tournament registration fees. Please reach out to Mandy tomorrow if you have any questions or send us an email.
We would not have been able to have the success we had this season without the help of all our volunteer coaches and help from our Aloha High School wrestling program. Also, big shout out and thank you to Kerri Engelman who has been taking all of the wonderful pictures and videos of our kids at the tournaments and practices. Please take the time to thank one of them tomorrow.
This has been a great season and one that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Good Luck to all our Aloha youth wrestlers and our Aloha High school wrestlers as they wrestle in District Championships tomorrow.
2/6/2023 - Schedule

1/9/2023 - Order Pickup and Picture Day
Good afternoon,
There were a couple of things that I forgot to include in the message last night. If you placed a sweatshirt/sweatpants order with the high school, Coach Holyoak will be available at 6pm before practice to hand orders out.
Next Tuesday January 17th, we will be taking group wrestling pictures before practice. Please have your wrestler wear their singlet and wrestling shirt to practice. We are going to try and take pictures at the beginning of practice. Please make sure that your wrestler is there by 6pm so we can get everyone in the team pictures.
Have a great week!
1/8/2023 - Practice Schedule and USA Tournament Follow-up
Good evening Warrior Family,
It was great to see some of our wrestlers out at the Newberg Classic competing this weekend. For most of our wrestlers, this was their first USA tournament. I was proud of the effort that they put forth.
We have two metro tournaments coming up this month, Glencoe on January 21st and Wilsonville on January 29th. Our practice schedule for this week is as follows.
Monday and Wednesday regular practice- K-4th 6:00pm- 7:30pm, 5th-8th 6:00- 8:00pm.
Tuesday will be advanced practice from 6:00pm-7:30pm.
Finally, I wanted to share something that Bill Volk our Aloha Athletics Director shared with the high school wrestling parents last month. It comes from the experience of being a coach and parent. I wish I had heard this 15 years ago.
- Praise performance, Not Outcome
- Ask for permission to give opinion/criticism
- Be aware of your Verbal/Non-Verbal body language
- Car Ride Home…Do Not Talk about things that suck
- Know your ROLE

As Coach Chon mentioned last week, USA tournaments should be considered for advanced yellow/blue card wrestlers. Please reach out if you have any questions. As always, you can find our updated schedule and information at www.alohamatclub.org

12/25/2022 - Schedule
Good afternoon Warrior families,
I hope everyone had a great weekend. The inclement weather is behind us for now and we have a couple of practices on the schedule for this coming week. Monday (12/26) we will have K-8 practice from 11:00am-12:30pm. Tuesday (12/27) we will have K-8 practice from 6:00-7:30pm. The updated schedule can also be found at www.alohamatclub.org
Right now our next confirmed metro tournament is not until January 21st. There is a possibility of additional metro tournament dates opening up before then. We have been looking for additional wrestling opportunities for our wrestlers for January. In addition to our regular youth wrestling tournaments with Metro Youth Wrestling, we have the ability to compete in USA sanctioned wrestling events.
What is the difference between Metro Youth wrestling tournaments and USA wrestling tournaments? Metro Youth tournaments are free. USA wrestling tournaments generally cost around $20 to register and compete. Metro tournaments utilize a 3 level- beginner, intermediate, and advanced card system. USA wrestling tournaments are open tournaments. Wrestlers compete based on their age/weight categories. https://www.usawmembership.com/age_group_weight_chart
USA wrestling tournaments usually are all day events. Wrestlers generally weigh in between 7am-8am. Wrestling usually begins around 9:30am and depending on bracket size can last into the afternoon. I want to make sure parents are aware of the time commitments. USA tournaments are advanced tournaments and should be considered for advanced wrestlers or by coaches invitation. There will be some USA tournaments coming up over the next two weekends. Coach Chon will be talking to advanced wrestlers about the upcoming USA tournaments. If you have any questions regarding whether this is the right fit for your wrestler, please talk to Coach Chon at practice this week.
I hope everyone continues to enjoy Christmas break.
12/20/2022 - Practice Schedule Update and Weather Concerns
Good afternoon Warrior families,
We needed to make a change to our practice schedule for K-8 over Christmas break. We will be having practice this Thursday and Friday (12/22, 12/23) from 11:00am-12:30 pm.
Next week we will be having practice on Monday (12/26) from 11:00am-12:30 pm and on Tuesday (12/27) from 6:00-7:30pm.
I encourage everyone to try and get their wrestlers to practice during break. We do have the possibility of inclement weather coming for Thursday and Friday of this week. We are running our practices right after the high school wrestling team. If they decide to cancel practices due to weather, we will cancel ours. We will notify families of any schedule changes due to weather conditions thru Facebook, email, and on our website under the announcements tab. www.alohamatclub.org
I hope everyone has a great Christmas break with their wrestlers.
12/14/2022 - Updated Schedule for Thursday
Good Afternoon,
We have a change to our schedule for this Thursday (12/15). Our 6th- 8th grade middle schoolers have been invited to Southridge High School this Thursday to wrestle against the Southridge middle school team prior to the varsity wrestling dual between Aloha and Southridge. We understand that this is short notice and if your wrestler is not able to attend, they can still practice with remaining team at Aloha. We are fortunate to have high school wrestling coaches in our league that our committed to our youth wrestling programs. This an excellent opportunity for our older youth wrestlers. We hope to be able to participate in more events like this. This also gives our middle school wrestlers an excellent opportunity to watch the high school team.
Southridge High School (dual will be in main gym)- 9625 SW 125th Ave, Beaverton, OR 97008
Wrestlers will need to show up at 5:30 pm . Wrestling will begin at 6:00 pm. High school varsity wrestles at 8:00pm.
Wrestlers will wear their singlets and team shirts that are being passed out tonight.
Adult admission to the dual is $6.00. Southridge is allowing us a guest list for middle school families so they can get in for free. Each wrestler is allowed two guests. Please reply to alohamatclub@gmail.com by 10:00am this Thursday (12/15) with your wrestlers name and names of two guests to get on the list.
For our K/5th graders practice will be from 6:00-7:30pm on Thursday night in our mat room.
Thank you
